Who We Are?
Our Mission
MPCA continues to work with all elected officials and was awarded two Community Service Grants that helped the youth and Seniors of McKinley Park.
We aim to give a voice to those who live or work in McKinley Park, while forming a stronger community. We also spread information about resources that may not be aware to the whole community. If you have a concern or issue that you feel is being unaddressed, join us at our next meeting to voice it. We will listen and try to guide you in the direction to get it resolved.
A Message from our President
McKinley Park is known for its beautiful park of the same name, a rich local history, active community spirit, and its unique bled of cultures, small businesses, and family-friendly events. From community cleanups and public safety meetings to seasonal celebrations and neighborhood beautification projects, we’re proud to be part of what Ames the area a great place to live.
As a new resident, we invite you to become involved – whether by attending a meeting, joining an event, or simply staying informed through our emails and social media updates. The MPCA is a volunteer-driven organization, and we welcome your ideas, energy, and voice.
– Chris Bania, MPCA President
Extraordinary Experiences
The Association with the help of various times of Bethany Baptist Church and The Willam McKinley American Legion Post organized the Memorial Day parade that we still help organize. We also sponsor a team for the Omega Delta Youth Baseball organization.
In 2025 we successfully hosted and awarded the McKinley Park’s Holiday lights contest. We also look forward to hosting our annual educators Banquet during the spring.
Our Brief History
In 1970 William H. G. Toms, Helen Lyons, Lillian Melke and others organized community members at St. Maurice Parish to seek out a voice for those living int he McKinley Park community. Part of the need arose from the area constantly being divided between Wards with boundaries moving every census.
The organization began meeting in the McKinley Park field house and quickly evolved into the predecessor of the McKinley Park Advisory Board and the CAPS program as Police officers would come to every monthly meeting to listen to concerns of the community. Both organizations became more formalized and have their own meetings.
